Product Description

Chest Seal

Chest Seal Vented Wound Dressing
Chest Seal is an advanced occlusive wound dressing designed to treat open chest wounds. Penetrating injuries to the chest that result in open chest wounds may lead to tension pneumothorax, the second leading cause of preventable death on the battlefield. Chest Seals are specifically designed with a medical grade hydrogel adhesive strong enough to adhere to skin that is exposed to blood, sweat, hair, sand or water.
Chest Seal is available in both a vented and non-vented version. The vented version that allows for one-way airflow out of the chest cavity during exhalation while preventing airflow into the chest cavity during inhalation. The vented design maximizes venting and ensures proper chest seal function in the event of an obstruction.

The Chest Seal vented design is the optimized blood guiding design according to the fitting operation. It ensures the cleanliness of the wound and the ultimate purpose is to guarantee the health and safety of the patient's wound and avoid secondary infection.

Advantages:
1. Advanced bonding technology can achieve excellent sealing effect under the most severe conditions (the wound may be covered with blood, sweat, body hair or other environmental pollutants).
2. To prevent, manage, and treat open and/or tension pneumothorax that may result from penetrating chest trauma.
3. Three or four passages are provided, designed to prevent airflow into the chest during inhalation, while allowing air to escape through the passage during exhalation. The exhaust channel is designed to allow blood to escape and remain fully operational even if individual passages in the channel are blocked.
4. Tab can be used to assist with lifting, removal, and placement of dressing.

Why do you need a chest seal ?
An open chest injury exposes the chest cavity to the pressure of outside air. When air is drawn into the cavity, it causes a pressure imbalance in the cavity and the lung on the injured side collapses. A chest seal blocks or prevents outside air from being drawn into the chest cavity. The lungs are prevented from collapsing first, and once the chest seal is applied, chest pressure returns to normal and the injured lungs are reinflated.

When to use a chest seal ?
When an open chest injury occurs, a chest seal is used, which means the chest wall is penetrated, leaving the chest cavity open to the atmosphere. The most common cause is penetrating trauma, such as a gunshot or knife wound. If the injury occurred between the chin and navel, it is possible that the injury has penetrated the chest wall. Symptoms of an open chest wound include difficulty breathing and/or a sucking sound when the patient breathes. Penetrating objects may also seriously damage internal organs.

How to use chest seal ?
1. Examine the patient for penetrating wounds between the chin and navel and for exit wounds. Care should be taken that the exit wound may be inconsistent with the entrance wound. Cover a wound with a gloved hand as soon as it is noticed.
2. Use gauze to wipe blood, sweat and debris from the wound. Open the package and remove the chest seal. Put the chest seal next to the wound. Slowly remove the plastic backing and apply the sticky side to the wound.
3. The chest seal should be located in the center of the wound and ensure that the chest seal is firmly adhered to and that no air passes through the chest seal during inhalation. Make sure the passage to the chest seal is not blocked, allowing blood or excess air to escape through the passage.
4. Repeat the steps for other wounds as necessary, making sure all exit wounds are sealed.
